WAVE BASH ON THE RIO PISTOLA

In hopes of spreading a bit of the stoke that I have for the upcoming American Windsurfing Tour I’ve put together a small presentation of images from last year’s Pistol River Wave Bash held at the strikingly beautiful  area just south of Cape Sebastian on the southern Oregon coast.

This year the Pistol River event will be the second stop on the tour. It will follow the much anticipated Santa Cruz, California event that will be held at Waddell Creek.

The talent that has already committed is phenomenal and the competition will be very heavy.

These events are very exciting to watch and there a great opportunity to see some great coast line

There is a variety of other activities to participate in other that the world class surfing waves sailing SUP boarding.

There’s great road and mountain biking in and around Gold Beach. The bike ride up the Rouge River is not to be missed. Nor is a float down the Rouge by canoe, kayak, or raft. The Rouge also offers excellent salmon fishing.

There is excellent bouldering and climbing all along the coast and most of it is very solid. In fact in the amount of time I lived in the area I can’t remember one single hold breaking off on my hand.

The trail down and up Cape Sebastian is a great hike and a good technical bike ride for that matter.
There are also two other less improved trails on the cape that are forever implanted in my memory.
They involve a swift downhill through dense ferns and old growth forest all the way to the beach and then a short easy push along beach to a winding road back up the cape.
In town there is plenty of lodging at every hospitality level.

There will be various parties and dinners associated with the Wave Bash and the campground at the fairgrounds offers easy access to all events and functions.

Although it’s not necessary to sign up to enjoy the event. The price of entry gives free camping, all sorts of sponsor swag, free raffle tickets, and access to the parties, and if it’s like last year abundant free beer.

The town of Gold Beach is 100% behind this event and is welcoming one and all competitors and spectators alike.
